KEEP YOUR ARMS OPEN WIDE

(RKB, July 1999, 4:13, Key of C)

1.) There she goes, with her head full of things she thinks she knows, and her heart riding on the wind that blows, thru her diary of poetry and prose. She is bound to take her chances, and it shows.

C1.) Keep your arms open wide. Your prayers ascending to the sky. (You've had your say and now what's been done is done. And tho' it hurts to see her run. . .) Keep your arms open wide.

2.) In the spring, she was only a sweet lovin' thing. She agreed with you on everything. But what changes the heat of summer brings.

C2.) Keep your arms open wide. Your prayers ascending to the sky. (Watch your words, and keep your wallet hidden too. But whatever else you do. . .) Keep your arms open wide.

(Instrumental break)

3.) Carry on. You keep reading 'bout the prodigal son. Certain truths never change, no, not that one. Tho' your heart sometimes breaks, and tears come: remain ready to forgive, carry on.

C3.) Keep your arms open wide. Your prayers ascending to the sky. (You've trained her up in the way that she should go. She'll be comin' back you know. . .) Keep your arms open wide.
