ODE TO JOHN WAYNE

(RKB, 2007, B, 3:43)

Hondo Lane or JD Cahill, John Chisum or JT Chance.
Big shoulders, pure of passion: hot lead or hot romance.
Throughout the age of moving pictures, there's no bigger name:
For God and country, friend and family: Here rides John Wayne.

He rode against the Commancheros, and put 'em to the flight.
He stood against Quantrell's gang, brought justice to that Kansas night.
And in the El Dorado country, he fought for the oppressed.
Rio Bravo, Rio Grande, Rio Lobo, this man brought us: Tales of the west.

He made the west the showcase of the all-American dreams.
He rode Tall in the Saddle. And he'd say just what he means.
Not afraid of trouble, and he'll look ya in the eye.
He knows the code he lives by, and he ain't afraid to die.

Big Jake, or Rooster Cogburn, Cole Thornton or the Ringo Kid.
Town Sheriff or Texas Ranger. Had a reason for the things he did.
Of all the celluloid heroes, ain't no one touched his fame:
For God and country, friend and family: Give me John Wayne.

"When you come slam bang up against trouble, it never looks half as bad if you face up to it."
"I've always followed my father's advice: he told me, first to always keep my word and, second, to never insult anybody unintentionally. If I insult you, you can be sure I intend to."
"I have found a certain type calls himself a Liberal...Now I always thought I was a Liberal. I came up terribly surprised one time when I found out that I was a Right-Wing Conservative Extremist, when I listened to everybody's point of view that I ever met, and then decided how I should feel. But this so-called new Liberal group, they never listen to your point of view..."
